Myself and my good lady wife are what some might describe as the ‘artistic sort’. She is rather good in the handicraft department and it is through her card making that I have come across decoupage.

Decoupage or découpage (coming from word “decoupage” comes from the French “couper” meaning “to cut”) is quite simply the art of decorating an object by gluing coloured paper images such as the ones below onto the surface of it with a combination of paint effects such as gold leaf or crackled look etc.

Each layer is sealed with multiple coats of varnish until the image looks like an inlay. Any theme can be employed but Victorian decoupage designs are probably the most popular because modern decoupage is a revival of the art that flourished in 18th and 19th century Europe.

So my intention to have a go at this and it looks like it is fairly cheap to do. Here’s a few examples of said distraction!
